| Well yet
another year has rolled over and along with it comes 10 more exciting trips for
you to enjoy and hone those skills on.
Our first
trip of the year will be to the Whirinaki
River which is
one of the largest tributaries of the Rangitaiki River
and provides excellent fishing for a large population of both rainbow and brown
trout in very clear water that flows over a rock and stone bed. Large sections
of the river flow through native forest providing high quality wilderness
fishing conditions. Fish can be spotted in the clear water especially on
brighter days and I have personally had some of my best North Island
sight fishing on this river.
NZ Fishing suggests that “The Whirinaki
finds great favour amongst anglers because of the quality of the fishing and
the beautiful scenic nature of the river and its surroundings.”
When & Where:
The trip will be held over the weekend of 10, 11
& 12 February and as always we will be staying at the Lake Aniwhenua Lodge
Motel, which is located on the banks of Lake Aniwhenua
just outside of the Murupara township
What to Bring:
Well other than the obvious fishing gear you
are will need to bring along your own bedding or a sleeping bag. I would also
like to encourage any fly tiers to bring along your vice for some evening
entertainment and pattern swapping.
Meals:
We will be providing you with breakfast on
the Saturday and Sunday morning as well as supper on the Saturday night. Each
angler will need to provide his/her own supper for the Friday night as well as
lunches for the other two days. Please feel free to bring along any snacks or
refreshments such as coffee of you favorite brew.
Cost:
The cost for this trip will be $105 per
person and includes meals and sharing accommodation. If you would like your own
separate accommodation you will be charged an additional $30 per night lodge.
Bookings:
Please send your booking confirmation to trips@afac.org.nz. Payment is to be made by
direct transfer as per instructions posted on this site here . Please ensure that you include your name and Whirinaki as a
reference.
Thanks and we look
forward to seeing you on this trip.
